CABINET SECRETARY FOR EDUCATION JOHN SWINNEY TO LAUNCH NEW SCOTS LANGUAGE WEBSITE

Event:  The Scots Scriever Hamish MacDonald and the National Library of Scotland have developed a new website that celebrates how the Scots language has been used down the centuries. It aims to raise awareness of the richness and depth of Scots. It will be officially launched by Mr Swinney at a ceremony at the Library.

Location: National Library of Scotland Boardroom, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh

Date/time: 10am on Thursday December 1

Event details:  Hamish MacDonald will present an overview of the work on the website and will be available for interview, as will National Librarian Dr John Scally and Jenny Niven, Head of Literature, Languages and Publishing at Creative Scotland, which is funding the Scots Scriever post as a key requirement of the Scots Language Policy.

There will be a reading in Scots from David Danylov, a student at Broughton High School in Edinburgh.

Mr Swinney will be able to view some iconic texts in Scots from the Library’s extensive collections.
