MEDIA INVITE - PHOTOCALL FOR LAST LETTER OF MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS

Event: The media are invited to see the last letter of Mary Queen of Scots before it goes on display to the public.    

Date/time:  9.15-10am on Wednesday, February 8 – the 430th anniversary of Mary’s execution. 

Location: National Library of Scotland, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh

Background: The National Library of Scotland is giving the public the chance to see the last letter of Mary Queen of Scots, written just six hours before her execution in 1587. It is one of the most powerful documents in Scottish history, written by arguably its most famous and controversial figure.  It marks the end of a life that has been immortalised in novels, film, poetry, drama and song down the centuries. The letter goes on public show from 10am-7pm on February 8. Curators will be available for interview.  

Please note that due to the special nature of the letter it will only be able to be photographed in a glass display case.
