A page from the 16th-century Book of the Dean of Lismore. Its scribes used the Roman script of the time, and a system of spelling based on the contemporary Older Scots language. The page shows the beginning of the moving lament of Aiffric Nic Coirceadail for her husband Niall Óg MacNeill (15th century), A phaidrín do dhúisg mo dhéar ("Oh rosary that woke my tears").
